Things change as you grow, priorities become different and life is like a whole new place to fill in but don’t forget about your health and dedication that you always had for fitness. Even if you have never worked out then I think it is about time for you start with something to keep yourself going for longer because life is too short for not caring about your fitness.
Here are some tips that can keep you fit in longer run:
Muscles tend to get rigid and stiff making your day to day life activities a big task which you can easily solve by starting with stretching. Start your stretching sessions daily, take it easy and slowly as you don’t have to rush, remember things take time. Start with your back, hands, neck, and legs. Take it easy and slowly. Easy and normal stretches can do it all.
2.Keep your brain active
Get a book on any topic that you like, make sure you read at least 5 pages daily. I know a lot of people who have a habit of reading newspaper, that is a really good activity for your brain and it surely keeps it active. As our brain begins to get more sluggish after we turn 30+, you need to keep the gray cells going to keep your brain better and active and that is only possible by utilizing it in reading or studying something.
3.Changes in diet
For some people, it is such a big task and I still know a lot of 60+ people who eat ‘desi ghee’ and milk on daily basis. It seriously helps them in staying fit as they have been doing that since they were 5 years old but the difference between city and village people is their lifestyle. City people have more health issues where they need to take care of everything and as you grow old your metabolism levels drop and you need to give your body food to keep them going well. Don’t eat fried food, go for fruits and vegetables and keep it simple.
4.Give your body enough time
If you are motivated enough to hit the gym by now then it is just great but make sure you take it easy out there. Give your body a little time to get used to things it is about to do. Know that the process is going to be slower but the turtle eventually wins, right? so take your time and perform your workout for 40 to 45 minutes and don’t push it too hard. It’s okay to keep it low and simple.
5.Balance and mix it all together
It could really get hard to stay on the fitness path because your body is slower and needs more rest and all but when there is a will then there is a way. To find that way you need to find a balance and mix by which I mean keep changing things to keep yourself into fitness. Got bored of running? Don’t do that, go for cycling or home workouts, don’t want to do that go out for walks with your friends, take up your sport and play it your way don’t push it too hard, it will take time.
6.Join Zumba or Aerobics classes
This is one fun thing you can do to keep yourself healthy and happy. You can join groups and make friends too. The fun part is these classes happen in morning as well if you are a morning person then you not only improve your heart health but improve your overall body function.
7.Strengthen your muscles
As we grow, we tend to lose our muscle mass and to avoid that we need to go for some strength training. Now don’t be scared when I say this, I don’t want you to lift 10 kgs or so. It can all happen between 1 to 5 kgs as you feel comfortable. It’s all about you and your health remember?
8.Keep it all in a limit
Getting old does not mean you will have to give up on things you loved. Go ahead have that piece of cake and a glass of wine as long as you know your limit, your body has got your back.
